Homeschooling Services

College Goals offers counseling to homeschooling families regarding educational opportunities and choices, and consulting regarding college admissions.

For most homeschooling families, college is a goal, though perhaps not the only one. While our consultancy is called "College Goals", our mission, particularly in the homeschooling context, is broader and encompasses the educational aspirations of young people from the earliest years onward.

Since two College Goals consultants (Joyce Reed and Gail Lewis) homeschooled all of their children for some or most of their pre-college years, we are particularly interested in supporting other families with similar educational goals. Our children gained acceptance to a wide range of schools including MIT, Brown, RISD, Pomona, Carnegie Mellon, Wellesley, Rochester Institute of Technology, and Harvey Mudd College. Proud as we are of our homeschooled children's college achievements, we are equally happy with the quality, richness and diversity of the learning experiences that led them to these fine institutions of higher learning. Now, more than ever, there are wonderful choices for and directions in which to take home learning.

For many years, through College Goals and through our published writings, Gail and Joyce have been guiding other families who have chosen alternative learning paths through their college search and application processes. We can provide information about, and qualitative value assessments of, a wide range of options for home learning. Our unique experience at the nexus where individual or family directed education meets higher education institutions allows us to provide professional guidance in this important transition, from homeschooling to college.

Because meeting the needs and requirements of colleges is a complex process for those families whose students take an alternate route to higher education, College Goals provides a range of consulting services and options to homeschooling families.

Fifth grade (age 10) is not too young to begin planning for higher education/ college preparation and so we offer general education planning and ongoing consulting advice to families with children of all ages.

Generally families contract with us for ongoing consulting on an hourly or on a set-fee basis for support during the pre-college years. For college admissions consulting, we offer packages designed to suit the different needs and budgets of home schooled families. The initial consultation is always free and usually, in itself, of value to students and families.

We offer a positive and productive relationship with students who are pursuing non-traditional educational paths, reassurance to families that we can provide clear guidance regarding colleges' expectations, and guidance through the challenging college search and complex application process.
